On the afternoon of January 9, 2025, a symposium on Tuong and traditional performing arts took place at the High School of Education Sciences (HES) - University of Education - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The event saw the participation of teachers, students, and artists from the Vietnam Tuồng Theatre.

This program is part of a series of experiential activities for the Local Education subject and in anticipation of the HES Spring Festival 2025. The symposium attracted the attention of students from the Literature and History Excellent Student teams, art clubs, and especially those who have a passion for the traditional cultural values of the nation.

During the symposium, students listened to artist Ta Van Sop, former Deputy Director of the Vietnam Tuong Theatre, discuss the unique characteristics of this scholarly art form, as well as the challenges Tuồng faces in the context of modern society and global cultural integration. However, from the questions raised by HES teachers and students, we can believe that traditional art still holds a special place despite the changing cultural landscape and world affairs. There are timeless values that people of all eras admire and aspire to. Tuồng, like many other traditional art forms of Vietnam, will continue to be a powerful source of inspiration for young art enthusiasts who bravely embark on the path of creativity and yearn to connect with the national soul and their own identity.

Under the guidance of Meritorious Artist Loc Huyen, Meritorious Artist Kieu Oanh, and other artists from the Vietnam Tuong Theatre, HES students enjoyed excerpts from "Ôn Đình chém Linh Tá" and "Kim Lân qua đèo" from the Tuong play Son Hau - a quintessential masterpiece of Vietnamese Tuồng. For the first time, the students experienced the vibrant atmosphere of a live Tuồng performance and understood that in Tuồng, music, dance, costumes, makeup, and language are not just elements that harmonize to create an artistic whole, but also hold independent artistic value, evoking emotions and co-creation from the audience.

We sincerely thank the dedicated artists of the Vietnam Tuong Theatre for preserving traditional values and inspiring today's generations.

We hope that this art symposium has provided a meaningful experience for the students of the High School of Education Sciences. May the echoes of ancient times from Tuong and traditional values resonate within the hearts of young Vietnamese people today.
